Truth Within
December 18, 2021 | Full Moon in Gemini | Keila Sachi Gaballo (she/her)Well hello, again. It's been... 20 months since my last blog post?! The one I wrote about staying home and using moon cycles in your journaling practice around the beginning of the first lockdown of this COVID-19 pandemic. I've been wanting to get back into blogging more frequently for some time now, but kept putting it off (probably because of my perfectionism and making excuses like "I don't have time to edit and illustrate all the cute little spot illustrations, etc.")SO, I decided to just get over myself and start posting again because I really miss this form of sharing and processing emotions and making sense of things that I learn through podcasts and books and courses and just interacting with humans out in the wild haha. I'll start back up again by sharing this piece that I illustrated and wrote in hopes of getting published in the Shimanchu Nu Kwii (Voices of Shimanchu) Magazine issue 2 on Identity. I've learned so much about my own identity over the past 20 months since my last blog, and I know there's still so much more to uncover... but for now, here's what I have to share about this journey of trusting this Truth Within:I wrote this poem/letter as I reflected on the collective experience of our Shimanchu friends and family in the 21st century. I knew that if I tried to write out a personal story of my thoughts and experiences exploring and unpacking my identity over the past couple of years, I'd end up with a full-on dissertation. So, I wrote this poem instead and dedicated it to all of us out there just trying to make sense of the complexity of our intersectional identities. I've found that many times, I feel the Truth of who I am and who I was created to be within me well before I have the words and knowledge to express or make sense of it. I've also experienced that my body speaks pretty loudly to me when my identity and my day-to day activities and actions aren't in harmony. The words that I share with each of you now is my way of sending you a big hug across the globe to embrace you and reassure you that there really is so much wisdom held in our bodies. This journey of life we're on is just an uncovering of this Truth that lies within us, shared with us from our ancestors, given to us by God, Spirit, the universe.Sending you all so much love,K
Dear beautiful human,
Dear wonderful, incredible, brave soulThank you for being youIn a world that tries to stealEvery ounce of joy and grace.
Whether you shout it from the rooftopsOr simply cherish it alone in your room,The entirety of your being is valid.
You possess somethingThey could never take—
The Truth of who you are.
What is Truth? Can you explain it? Feel it?
The tremble of your handsThe tightness in your chestThe scream of your soulI know that dissonanceI know it's scaryTo know something so deepYet, feel lost in its meaning. It's all part of the journey—Feeling and embodyingThe wisdom of your bones.Trust that voice. The one inside begging you to listen:You hold every ounce of Truth within.
